Brief
Design and model a space for testing under natural lighting conditions in the real world. Examine results to design and test a series of options to create the best overall lighting solution for the space.
Description
The original design was a concept for a wine bar. Using the vernacular of mid-century retail architecture, the space was designed to take advantage of the views and vista the proposed Napa Valley location would provide. After testing it was determined that the large picture windows created an extreme amount of glare when inside the space while the back of the room was left in relative darkness. After designing and testing multiple options it was determined that the best solution was the addition of a modified skylight to bring more natural light into the rear of the space. Pairing the skylight with the large windows reduced the overall glare issues and balanced the light level throughout the space.
